DVIP Surrey Children and Young People Service (YUVA)
We provide confidential support for families experiencing child to parent violence or abuse. We work with families to develop healthy communication and relationships, and educate young people to look at their abusive behaviour and understand healthy relationships.
Who we are
We’re a division of Waythrough. For over 30 years, DVIP have been helping to make women and children safer. With services across London, we work to stop domestic violence and to reduce the harm it causes to women, children and families.
We are known as an authority in the UK in providing specialised domestic violence services. The Home Office has cited DVIP as a model of good practice, and the Office of the Mayor of London has recognised our contribution to women’s safety. We’re proud that our Violence Prevention Programme is one of the first in the UK to be fully accredited by Respect, the accreditation body for domestic violence perpetrator programmes in the UK.
What we do
We work with young people one-to-one to identify and change their violent or abusive behaviours. The programme draws on a variety of approaches such as cognitive behaviour therapy, attachment theory and systemic practice.
We work to explore more effective ways of communicating distress that are safer and address any underlying beliefs and attitudes supporting their use of violence.
Parents and carers are offered a group programme to help reduce feelings of shame and the stigma they often experience. We help to empower parents and carers to address unhealthy power dynamics within the family.
We also provide consultations to professionals wanting to enquire further about child-to-parent violence resources and support.
Who is this service for
- Young people aged 11 to 18 (and up to 25 where there are additional needs) who have used violence or abuse towards their parents or carers.
- Parents or carers experiencing abuse from their child.
- Young people and families living in Surrey.
Get support
We accept referrals from professionals and organisations working with the family, as well as self-referrals completed by parents or carers. We need consent from both the parent and the young person if a referral is to be made on behalf of a family.
Please contact us to discuss referrals or request a referral form.
