Waythrough is sub-contracted by Tees, Esk and Wear Valley NHS Trust, in partnership with Spectrum CIC to provide the needs-led support, follow-up and peer support service elements of Liaison and Diversion (L&D) services across Durham, Cleveland and North Yorkshire police force areas. These services provide early intervention for vulnerable people as they come into contact with the criminal justice system, particularly those who find themselves in police cells.
The service provides a timely response to concerns raised by police, probation, youth offending teams and court staff and provides key information to courts to inform remand and sentencing decisions.
L&D also act as a point of referral and assertive follow-up for service users, ensuring people are supported to engage with a range of community and support agencies to meet their needs and hopefully reduce contact with the criminal justice system.
